What is AllPrep Early College?
AllPrep Early College is a public charter high school that gives students, grades 10 - 12, the opportunity to take classes at the community college and earn dual credit (high school and college). The tuition and fees for those classes are paid for (up to $900 per term) by AllPrep Early College. Additionally, each student receives reimbursements for textbooks up to $500 annually.
What are the main differences between AllPrep Early College and AllPrep Academies?
Students enrolled in early college take their classes full-time at the community college. Online college courses are available to our students only through the community colleges, not through the web academy (i.e. Odysseyware, Rosetta Stone). Early college students have access to computer labs on campus and do not receive laptops from our school.
Do I get a high school diploma?
Yes! All of our students MUST be working towards earning a high school diploma. Since AllPrep Early College has schools sponsored by different school district, you will earn your diploma through that district. For example, Marcola AllPrep Early College is a charter school with the Marcola School District.
Does it matter where I live?
As long as you live in Oregon, early college is an option for you. We have students around the state that attend their local community college. Online programs may be an option for students that are unable to commute to a local community college.
What kinds of classes do I have to take?
You need to be enrolled in one class every term that counts toward your high school diploma; this is your “core” class. Other classes that you will take will depend on your goals. We, the counselors, work with you to advise you in selecting classes that are appropriate for you individually. You must take at least six credits per term, which is typically two classes. Your classes will be tailored towards your high school graduation requirements.
What are the high school diploma requirements?
These are the same for all Oregon AllPrep schools. Please refer to the "Academics" page. The only requirements that you are unable to completely fulfill through classes with a community college are ACT and Senior Capstone. You will work with our coordinators to complete these classes.
What if I don’t want to go to a four year college?
Regardless of your plans, early college is a great option. For students interested in transferring to a four-year university, they may complete many of their general education requirements. For students interested in career-technical programs, we can help you work towards those shorter term programs. We work very closely with students so that we can really understand what their goals are.
Do I need to know what I want to do?
No, we have many students that are undecided. Again, we will work closely with you each term to help you work towards your high school diploma and explore potential career interest areas.
Can I be a student in another school at the same time?
No, AllPrep Early College is an accredited public charter high school. You cannot be a student in multiple schools at the same time; this includes any of the AllPrep Academies. We will accept past credits from other accredited schools.
What if I have been homeschooled?
There is a different process for us to award credit for classes that were completed as part of a homeschool curriculum during 9th – 12th grade. We have a course analysis form that we can share with you in more detail.
Can I still do sports at my local high school?
Yes, you are eligible to be involved in after school activities. However, you are not allowed on campus during the school day.
I am still not sure, why should I do early college?
Early college is a GREAT opportunity to get a head start on college. If the idea of earning high school credits that also count for college credits appeals to you, contact us for more information.
So what do I do to get started?
First, you need to let us know that you are interested in the program. The best way to do this is by applying online. We will send you the detailed information on the steps you need to get going in one of the early college academies. Specific details can be found on the home page under the "Get Started Now" link.
